Winners was another player who joined under the “block paving revolution” and when available has been a calm head on (so he tells me) young shoulders. Capable of playing anywhere on the left or the middle of defence or midfield – his versatility makes him an important member of the squad. He’s a good talker and strong in the tackle, it’s only a shame that he is not available more often.

Unfortunately his first passion is clubbing (he has been voted the UK’s top clubber 15 years on the trot, shared each time with Danny “Sherbs” Herbert) which means he is available only once in a blue moon. When he does turn up you can guarantee that he will stay in the changing rooms until the match has kicked off to ensure that he doesn’t get the linesmans flag.

Northampton United would like to thank Fever and Blue WKD for their generous player sponsorship for this season – can we have him back at some point please?

Long throw specialist Slinky is a great club man who has been involved in a number of key signings giving him the new moniker “Not Too Pin Zavy”. As a full time DJ he has access to the guest lists in all the hottest nightspots in town which has acted as a great tool for persuading prospective players that the Wombles are the right club for them.

A key part of the management team, he is also a more than able performer from left back, with very few people able to get round him (for various reasons), he also has the patented shoulder-header which is a potent tool to have in his armoury alongside his cultured left foot which he can open a tin of beans with.

Like many of the players he has experience to burn but has been out of the 11 aside game for a while so will be looking to regain match fitness as the season progresses. The lads will be hoping he can bag goals from free kicks so he can stop living off the memory of his Sixfields rasper 5 years ago!

Lines made his debut against local rivals Squirrels and has been very solid in every match since, leading to the signing of an extended deal. A good shot stopper, great in the air and so so orange, he is an excellent addition to the squad who can also do a job in training as an outside, outside right.

Neil Lewis is one of the founding members of the Reserves and has agreed to take on the responsibility of managing the team. On the pitch Lewy brings many years of experience playing for the first team and also Duston Utd on Saturdays. He will be looking to return to his central midfield birth, having been seen as something of a utility man by previous managers he has played under due to his comfort at moaning from full back or anywhere across the midfield.

Lewy is a genuine goal threat whose late runs from midfield and will be a key figure in the teams quest for trophies / league consolidation. He will hopefully be allowed down the pub for more than an hour at some point during the season so that he can show the new lads his wine glass trick!

His dark eyes have already created a stir with some of the new lads and they will be even more excited by his plethora of nicknames including Dr Peath, Black Eyed Peath, Hot Rod, and many many more.

Ageing target man Scott Eason was one of the first players approached by the management team when it was clear that the reserves would be starting up this season. Eason has been on the local scene for many years, and despite over the seasons developing an inverse relationship to his goals per game and age, he is a great signing.

“Super” Scott Eason (as he likes to be known) can play up front or as an attacking midfielder and has a good touch for a big man with an eye (but not head) for goal. Another experienced campaigner, he adds to the growing Wootton contingent in the dressing room, and fears of a split between the Duston and Wootton lads has been allayed as Eason said “just coz we’re yokels doesn’t mean we can’t get on with our more streetwise betters from Duston. I look forward to playing with them and also picking up some lipstick tips from Nasal”.

Scott Eason, a gentlemen, a swordsman, and a targetman. We look forward to seeing him line up for the Wombles and think he would be a good outside bet for top scorer (if he can control his booze consumption and actually turn up!).

Journeyman footballer Phil Littlewood will see out his long and distinguished career after signing on for the reserves for the coming season. Littlewood’s career has seen him play for various clubs including local rivals Squirrels and also Saturday team Duston Utd.

“The Weave” as he is affectionitely known can play either left back or centre half and has been known to do the odd stint in the middle of the park. His “competitive” nature can sometimes see him get into trouble with referees and opposition players alike but he has a great engine and will add experience and know how to the reserves defence.

He once scored a winning goal at ixfields with his right peg, the only time he has ever kicked the ball forward with his right foot. Phil will be a valuable addition to the reserves this year.

Has been out of 11 a’side football for over a year and a half due to work commitments but will hoping to recapture some fitness over the summer (during a Wii Fit test he was assessed to have the fitness of a 44 year old!) and some form. Nasal will be 30 in October and knows time is ticking away to get some football out of his ageing legs!
