About
Northampton United are a Duston based men’s sunday football team who play in the Premer League of the Northants Sunday Conference. The brainchild of the great Greg and Lorraine Wager, the club were originally a youth football club known as The Rebels which gave the opportunity to many players in Duston who at the time were struggling to get competitive first team football. The club struggled to get positive results in the first few years but as the nucleus of the squad was augmented with a better caliber of player results followed.
The team continued through the youth ranks (including a much needed name change to the less cringe-worthy Duston Youth) playing up to the under 18’s. The club finally progressed to men’s football when they joined the old Araglen Sunday League in the mid-90’s and took on their current name Northampton United.
United are unique in the local leagues having managed to gain relative success whilst maintaining a squad consisting mainly of the players that attended Duston Upper School together.
Current incumbent in the managerial hot seat Carl “Polly” Parsons having taken over from the clubs most successful manager Eric Ross at the begining of the 2007/08 season. 2008/09 will see the introduction of a reserve team for the first time which will hopefully enable the club to continue their progression.
